Walk With Your Doctor is a program designed by Dr. Shindana Feagins, to promote healthy lifestyles and provide preventative measures to combat disease and illness while cultivating positive patient relationships between the patient and doctor.
Physicians play a vital role in advising patients about their overall health. We all know the importance of physical activity and enjoying a walk together or as part of a routine. By encouraging walking for exercise, Feagins found a great way to strengthen the doctor-patient relationships.
As a physician, Dr. Feagins sees countless patients with chronic medical problems, and obesity has been an undeniable culprit in many of these cases. The American Medical Association has declared that obesity is a disease in itself, that not only affects adults, but children as well. For the past several years, Dr. Feagins has herself, struggled with her own weight...and she found it difficult to look her patients in the eye and tell them they needed to lose weight, knowing that she herself needed to do the same.
As a result, Dr. Feagins set out on a path to change her lifestyle and get healthy, so she could practice what she was preaching to her patients. But like her patients, she found that losing weight was easier said than done.
With the help of her best friend, husband Edwin Feagins, Sr., she started thinking of ways to not only help her patients lose weight but also herself as well. A program where she could not only be accountable to her patients, but they too, could be accountable to her. So she prayed about it and waited.
One day a patient asked her about an all-natural weight loss injection that she had heard about from a friend. After much research, Dr. Feagins tested the product herself, began losing weight and started exercising and creating meal plans with a professional chef. Once this became a part of her everyday routine, she started recommending (the product) to her patients along with exercise routines and meal plans. Then the vision came, while sitting in a Las Vegas hotel with her husband, to create a weight loss program centered around improving patient and doctor relationships while together combating diseases through healthy lifestyles.
Dr. Feagins truly believes that together, we can fight the obesity battle and take a step toward a healthier future, one individual, one family, one community at a time.
Our next walk is scheduled for September 30, 2017 at the Ted Rhodes Golf Course, located in Nashville, TN. Registration will begin at 7:00 am and the walk will begin at 8:00 am.
